Squishy kits compared: what is in the box, and for whom

A squishy kit can mean a bottle of liquid silicone with moulds, or a box of empty ball shells to fill with slime. We tested eight, counting what each box holds, comparing the ages and reading the safety wording against what a pack must show. Nothing here is a method: the maker’s notice is the only instruction that counts.

Squishy kits compared: what is in the box, and for whom

In short

  • Five kits are liquid-silicone sets to mix and mould; three are ball shells filled with slime, clay or fillers.
  • Six listings give an age, 6+ or 6 to 12. Tel Charme and Thedttoy give none.
  • Counts mislead: 53 pieces means 13 skins, and two Highttoy figures mix grams and millilitres.
  • Words such as safe, certified and non-toxic are the sellers’. They are not repeated here, and nothing on this page involves heat.

Two kinds of kit under one name

Both kinds are sold as a squishy kit, but they ask for different things from the person making. Five are liquid silicone to mix and pour. Three are shells to fill and close. We compare the eight by contents and age, not by method.

We describe what is in each box and what each listing claims. We give no mixing ratios, timings or tips beyond the maker’s notice, and no kit here involves heat of any kind. For a project with paper and stuffing instead, see how to make a squishy.

Where the age is missing or splits

Hapikids offers the clearest clash: five-year-olds in the title and six-to-twelve in the text. Tel Charme and Thedttoy give no age, so the box decides. German consumer centres advise against giving any squishy to a child under 3.

Adults in the room

Four texts picture parent and child making together; none writes adult supervision as a rule. The maker’s notice, not this page, sets how much help a young maker needs, and the silicone kits, with two components to mix, are where we would read it first.

Millilitres or grams?

Two listings use a unit in the title and another in the features: the second Highttoy and Tel Charme. A millilitre and a gram of liquid silicone are not the same quantity, so ask the pack, not the title, how much you receive.

Shell kits: counting what you really fill

KitSquishies you can makeHow the listing counts
Doodora88 ball shells, 14 slime bags, 3 clay bags
Fairy Potions1010 balls, shells not itemised
Thedttoy1313 skins in three styles, 19 filler packs; the title says 53 pieces

Fifty-three pieces, thirteen squishies

The Thedttoy figure counts everything in the box. The number to compare is the number of skins. Doodora and Fairy Potions count in squishies directly, eight and ten.

Wording we do not pass on

  • “Safe”, “non-toxic”, “certified” and “child-safe” appear in the silicone listings. They are the sellers’ words: no certificate is shown, and we have no laboratory result.
  • Several texts say gloves are not needed. We do not repeat that as advice; the notice in the box is the reference.
  • Skills, confidence and imagination claims, and stress or anxiety wording, are set aside, as they are on every page of this site.
  • Claims to be safer or easier than rival kits are marketing, not comparisons we can check.

What can be checked is on the packaging: the age grade, the UKCA or CE marking on toys sold in Great Britain, and a manufacturer’s or importer’s address. A kit that shows none of them deserves a second look.

Heat is never part of it

None of these kits asks for heat, and neither do we

The DGCCRF asks people not to copy videos of squishies put in a microwave, and reports bursting and burns. Consumer centres in Germany add that a hot gel sticks to skin and burns deeper than hot water. Do not warm, microwave or leave any squishy on a radiator or in a hot car, finished or not.

What a home-made piece lacks

A boxed toy carries an age grade, markings and a maker’s address. A piece you cast or fill yourself carries none of them, which is one more reason to follow the notice to the letter and to retire a piece that cracks, tears or smells odd.

Ready-made instead

  • A taba set such as SSKHE’s calls itself a kit but holds four finished pieces; it sits on the taba squishy page.
  • A single-product look at the shell kit with the clearest age is in the Doodora review.
  • A paper version needs only paper, tape and soft stuffing: paper squishy.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a shell kit and a silicone kit?

A shell kit supplies shells or skins that you fill with slime, clay or fillers. A silicone kit supplies two liquid components and moulds. The second asks more of the maker and carries an age of 6 or more on four of five listings.

Which kits state an age?

Doodora, Fairy Potions and Besdiyart say 6+. Both Highttoy kits say 6 to 12, and Hapikids says 5 to 12 in the title and 6 to 12 in the text. Tel Charme and Thedttoy say nothing.

Does a kit make a squishy as safe as a shop-bought one?

Nothing in the listings establishes it. Age grade, marking and a maker’s address are checks for a finished toy; a piece you make yourself has none of them.

Can slime or silicone be warmed to help it set or soften?

No. None of these listings asks for heat, and the authorities warn against heating squishies. If a kit’s own notice says something different, the notice is the authority, not this page.

Why does Thedttoy say 53 pieces?

The figure counts the 13 skins, the 19 filler packs and the tools together. The count of squishies you can make is the number of skins.

Are the glow-in-the-dark decorations a concern?

Several kits include glow pigments, powders or stars. The listings give no composition for them, so the pack and its marking are the source.
