In short
- Mochi, taba, slow-rising foam and plush are the families most listings fall into; filled skins with gel, liquid or beads are a separate group.
- Materials below are the sellers’ wording: TPR rubber, silicone, slow-rise foam, ultrasoft plush.
- Some squishies are sold as stress relief; the sellers’ claims are not ours.
- Filled skins are the type named in 2026 safety alerts, which is why age and marking matter.
One word, very different objects
On a UK listing, “squishy” can mean something you could lose in a coat pocket or something you could hug. The product pages in our selection show the range well.
- A mochi set such as the JUAUO one lists 32 small pieces: 14 animals, 10 dinosaurs and 8 fruits.
- A MushyKinz bag charm lists five micro taba squishies in a zip pouch, with styles that vary from pack to pack.
- The Squishmallows Micromallows bouquet lists three detachable 2.5-inch plush, while a licensed Pokémon plush is listed at 50 cm.
What they share is softness and a shape you can press, then watch return. Beyond that, material, size, care and risk all differ, which is why the sections below keep the types apart.
The main types side by side
| Type | Material as listed | Typical use | Point to watch |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mochi | TPR rubber (JUAUO, DTYDECLE, SINZUX) | Collecting shapes, party bags, desk toys | Many small pieces; some listings ask for supervised play |
| Taba | TPR, or silicone and TPR (Audasi, SSKHE) | Fidgeting, keyrings and bag charms | Surprise packs hide which styles you get |
| Slow rising | Soft foam (ICONRY, suction, Mondiko) | Desk toys that return slowly after a press | Foam wears and soaks up water |
| Plush | Ultrasoft plush (Squishmallows Original) | Cuddling, display, collecting | Age label and, for the micro size, detachable parts |
| Filled skin | Gel, liquid, beads or sand under an elastic skin | Squeezing; the type behind 2026 alerts | Splits, leaks and heating; see the safety guide |
Making kits and paper squishies are a sixth route for people who would rather build their own; they sit in squishy kits compared and paper squishy.
What twelve listings say they contain
We went through the listings in our selection and noted only the contents each one states. Counts and names are the sellers’; packs can differ, so check the one that arrives.
| Listing | Contents as listed | Kind |
|---|---|---|
| JUAUO kawaii set | 32 pieces: 14 animals, 10 dinosaurs, 8 fruits | Mochi |
| DTYDECLE jungle animals | 18 pieces packed separately, including turtles, ducks, sheep, elephants and pandas | Mochi |
| SINZUX mini animals | 21 different designs | Mochi |
| MushyKinz bag charm | 5 micro taba (Chip, Mochi, Shirley, Rosy, Button), a zip pouch with clip, a rare glitter style in selected packs | Taba |
| SSKHE taba set | 4 pieces: strawberry, hamster with cheese, cat paw, each in its own bag | Taba |
| Audasi taba set | 4 pieces: biscuit, fruit, cat paw and penguin | Taba |
| ICONRY butter and cheese | 2 pieces: one butter, one cheese cube | Slow rising |
| suction bread set | 2 pieces: toast and butter, in yellow and pink | Slow rising |
| Mondiko ghost | 1 glow-in-the-dark ghost in an illustrated box | Slow rising |
| Squishmallows Original bat | 1 plush listed at 7.5 inches, with a name and a short bio | Plush |
| Micromallows bouquet | 3 detachable 2.5-inch plush: a bat, a spider and a cat | Plush |
| Pokémon Squishmallows | 1 licensed plush listed at 50 cm | Plush |
The spread is the point: a buyer comparing a 32-piece set with a single 50 cm plush is comparing two products that happen to share a word.
Each family in a few lines
Mochi
Mochi squishies are small, cute and usually sold in assorted sets. The three sets we looked at list TPR rubber and say the pieces can be washed in mild soap. Comparison and sizes are on mochi squishy sets compared.

Taba
Taba squishies are soft and slightly sticky, and the listings we read offer four or five shapes per pack, such as strawberries, hamsters and cat paws. MushyKinz sells a surprise bag; SSKHE and Audasi list four-piece sets. See taba squishies compared.
Slow rising
A slow-rising squishy is pressed flat and then returns to shape gradually. The ICONRY set lists a butter and a cheese cube, the suction set a slice of toast with butter, and the Mondiko ghost a glow-in-the-dark finish.
Several of these are sold as stress relief, which is the seller’s claim and not ours. Details are on slow-rising squishies compared.
Plush
Squishmallows are plush toys, so the checks for plush apply: look for an age label and marking on the toy and its packaging. The Original range lists an official seal. Our comparison is on Squishmallows compared.
Filled skins
The squishies that drew official attention in 2026 were of this type. The Verbraucherzentrale describes them as an elastic skin filled with gel, liquid, beads or sand. We list none of them, and are squishies safe sets out what was published.
Choosing a starting point
| If you are after | Start with | Read the listing for |
|---|---|---|
| A lot of small shapes for a collection or party bags | Mochi sets | Piece count, age, any mouth caution |
| Something to carry and fidget with | Taba bag charms or sets | Whether styles are random |
| A desk object that rebounds slowly | Slow-rising foam | Material and any care instructions |
| Something soft to hold | Squishmallows plush | Size and age label |
| A project to make | A kit or a paper squishy | What is in the box; age on the box |
The same listing details matter whichever you pick: the maker’s stated age, marking, and a manufacturer or importer address on the pack.
If the toy is a present, the maker’s age matters more than the type, and squishy gift ideas works through that by recipient.

Frequently asked questions
Is a Squishmallows plush a squishy?
Sellers use the word for both, but a Squishmallows is plush and follows plush rules, while the squishies in recent alerts have a filled skin.
What does TPR mean on a listing?
It stands for thermoplastic rubber, the material that mochi and taba listings name. A listing’s material line is the seller’s claim, not a test result.
What does slow rising mean?
The toy is pressed down and then comes back to shape gradually, rather than at once, as the listings describe it.
Are squishies only for children?
Not by the way they are sold. The Audasi taba listing says it is suitable for adults, while other listings give a children’s party as the use.
Is a squishy the same as a stress ball?
Some squishies are sold as stress balls or fidget toys, and the two terms overlap on listings. Neither term tells you the material or the age.
Why do some listings call a squishy “kawaii”?
Kawaii means cute. It names a look, such as smiling animals or food, and says nothing about the material.
